Explore New York history and discover your own family’s history! Presented in partnership by the New-York Historical Society and the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, this exciting collaborative program invites you into the New-York Historical Society’s Museum and Library to dive into New York’s past while learning research skills to uncover your family history—all in one afternoon. Advance registration required

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

2–2:30 pm
Tour: Led by a museum docent, discover family histories told through extraordinary and everyday objects from the New-York Historical Society’s collection.

2:30–3 pm
Research in the Library: Learn how to conduct genealogical research in the special collections at the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library at New-York Historical! Guided by an experienced reference librarian, learn about the vast collections at our esteemed research library as well as how to register and conduct research of your own and how to locate and contextualize primary and secondary resources.

3–4 pm
Ten Tips for Exploring Your Family’s History: You’ve gotten inspired by New York history and learned how and where to research—so what’s next? How should you begin your process? Learn 10 essential steps to discovering your family’s story from an expert at the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.

This comprehensive experience is ideal for those who are just starting their own research.
